Aerosol Can Crusher

The Aerosol Can Crusher (ARC Series) is used specifically for draining, crushing and containing VOCs from household waste aerosol cans with the goal to reduce hazardous waste seepage into landfills, contain the VOCS to prevent OZONE degradation, and to provide a size reduced metal that can be further recycled. SRS offers a cycle throughput range from 250 - 3,000 cans per hour.

Industries that utilize Aerosol Can Crushers:

  • Hazardous waste collection companies
  • Large paint manufacturers
  • United States Military
  • Other government/municipal agencies.

Recent News on the ARC Series Aerosol Can Crusher

SRS Engineering's Aerosol Can Crushing System just passed rigorous air quality testing conducted by the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, California.  This unit was tested to determine if employees were being exposed to toluene, acetone, and hydrocarbon while operating the unit.  Conclusive test results showed that while operating the ARC system, exposure to these chemicals remained within permissible exposure limits (PEL).  Testing was also conducted in various areas around the Aerosol Can Crusher (ARC) to determine if employees would be exposed to these chemicals during operation and concluded that air quality still remained within limits.

The ARC-250 is currently the only GSA Automatic Aerosol Can Crusher available which has operating systems in place for over 5 years now.

 How the ARC System Works:

  1. Aerosol cans are loaded into the staging hopper or conveyorized staging hopper.
  2. The operator activates the aerosol can crusher.
  3. A clearing cycle is done to confirm that all residual cans left in the chamber are cleared.
  4. Cans are loaded from the hopper automatically and placed in the crushing chamber.
  5. System crushes the can.
  6. All residual liquid in the can is discharged into a 55 gallon drum.
  7. All vapors are pressurized through the drum and into the dual inline carbon beds.
  8. The empty crushed can is discharged directly underneath ARC into a 55 gallon open drum or pail.
  9. When the system detects that the can has been crushed and discharged, it releases another can for crushing.

Additional ARC System Features:

  • Our Aerosol Can Crushing and Compacting System monitors the exit/vent port of the last inline carbon bed to confirm that the carbon bed is not releasing vapors into the atmosphere.  If vapors are detected, the system will alarm, disable the system, and display an alert message on the control panel indicating that the carbon beds need attention or need to be replaced.
  • Cylinder positioning sensors detect jams and will automatically engage an operation to release the can from the jam and discharge it.
  • Maintenance screen displays all manual activations of the instrumentations on the system. This allows maintenance staff to manually activate all functions on the system. For example, the maintenance staff presses the button "Seal Change" on the maintenance screen which enables the cylinders to adjust and move to a position which allows access to change the seal with ease.
  • Life cycle counters keeps a count of how many cans have been crushed throughout the life of the equipment.
  • Daily cycle counters keep track of how many cans are crushed in a day. (This may be reset as desired).
  • Carbon filter change cycle counter allows you to determine when the last carbon bed was changed.  A suggested set point will display a message on the screen advising you to change the carbon beds.
  • Meets Class 1 Division 1 or Atex Standards

SRS offers the only Aerosol Can Crusher currently approved by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA)
